This research provides a financial analysis of problem solving courts for women, comparing this to costs of other more commonly used sentences, such as short custodial sentences and 'business as usual' community sentences. It finds that the average annual cost of a women's problem solving court (WPSC) placement is £11,325, compared to £13,386 for a six-month custodial sentence, and that by sending a women through a WPSC instead of custody, a financial break-even point is reached after just 78 days in prison.
