This research paper outlines prenatal representations of pregnant mothers who had previously lost children to care, and who were again at risk of entering care proceedings with their unborn baby.
The paper’s authors conducted interviews with five pregnant mothers participating in the Family Drug and Alcohol Court (FDAC) pilot, who had previously had between two and six children each removed.
The study explores thematically how these mothers imagined themselves as mothers, their babies, and their relationships with their babies.
This study was undertaken alongside a Lancaster University led evaluation of a pilot program within FDAC.
